Mindfulness, Self Wellness

Would YOU Like to Meet the Dalai Lama?

Want to meet the Dalai Lama?

You can!  Vicariously that is….

Let me start at the beginning.

The Mind and Life Institute

The Mind and Life Institute is an organization dedicated to exploring the relationship of science and Buddhism. The institute partners with world renowned scientists and Buddhist practitioners.  The most notable Buddhist monk is Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama.

Over the past 20+ years, top-notch scientists affiliated with The Mind and Life Institute have gone back to their respective Universities and made ground breaking discoveries (documented by western scientist in western labs) about the benefits of contemplative science.

Each year the 14th Dalai Lama, advance Buddhist practitioners, Christian scholars and prominent ordained ministers “get together” with these top-notch scientists in a symposium called the International Symposium for Contemplative Science (ISCS).  The ISCS discusses the most recent scientific research, ponders the possible merits of the research, and delve into what next steps should be taken.

I’ve read many of the fascinating manuscripts of these symposiums.  To be in the presence of these particular mind trusts would be phenomenal.  In my book, Mothering…Your Inner Connection, I’ve shared some of the research on contemplative science.  I’ve also shared with my readers that attending an ISCS would be a dream comes true.  Well, my dream is coming true!

The ISCS just recently granted The Inner Connection press accreditation to attend the symposium.  The scope of the project will include writing for the readers what it is like to in the presence of these great minds, the tenor of the conference, and most importantly to disseminate the information lectured on during the four days.

The first day is a pre-conference meeting regarding contemplative science in education.  The Inner Connection has committed to writing five articles about the first day alone!  The next 3 days will consist of keynote speeches by Tenzin Gyatso, his holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Richard J. Davidson, PhD and an entire power house line up.  Subsequent Master lectures are being offered during concurrent sessions in the afternoon.  I must not forget to tell you there is also group meditation (unbelievable!!!) and socializing.

Needless to say, this is a huge opportunity and I wish to share it with you.  The last week of October, I will be posting a daily blog during ISCS with thoughts, feelings, and impressions of the day.  In the following weeks (or months), I will follow up with articles that feature content from  keynote addresses or other concurrent sessions.

Sharing the ISCS with You

To make a long story short, if you want to hang out with the 14th Dalai Lama (even if it is vicariously) or learn more about the contemplative sciences…stay tuned.  If someone you know would get a kick out of reading about ISCS, please forward them this newsletter so they can sign up to receive it during the symposium.

If you wish to know something specific or want me to expand on a particular topic from the ISCS, feel free to contact me:  Sharon@TheInnerConnection.net

I am so very grateful for this opportunity to attend ISCS AND share it with you!
