Three minutes of Mindfulness a day have the same positive effects as 20 min of meditation!  All you need to do is carve out three minute from your busy schedule to become more aware of your surroundings.

Benefits of three minutes of Mindfulness (or 20 min of meditation) include connecting to your inner self thus becoming aware of what is inside you and around you.  These benefits lead to decrease blood pressure, decrease anxiety, increase contentment, and better health.

Mindfulness is really very simple.  To borrow a Nike’s slogan, “JUST DO IT!”

Ways to be Mindful for 3 minutes

1)      Become aware of your breathing:  Sounds easy, however you have to”JUST DO IT!”  Take 3 minutes and watch your breath.  Become aware of when you inhale and notice how deeply do you breathe in?  How long do you inhale?  Is there any restrictions?  Is it easy?  Do the same with exhaling.

2)      Notice what you are eating.  Spend three minutes enjoying one bite.  What does your food look like?  What aromas hit your sense as your meal is still on the plate?  Take 2 minutes to slowly chew your first bite of dinner and savor the flavors, appreciate the texture, and be grateful for the farmers and cook who brought it to you.

3)      Be grateful:  Being Grateful is catchy.  The more you count your blessings the more appreciative you become.  It is simple….”JUST DO IT!”  Take three minutes to write down what you are grateful for.  The act of writing it down affects your neurochemistry.  Taking time to put pen to paper makes positive changes in the brain leaving one feeling more content.
